East Coast Traffic Control Successfully Manages Major Highway Closure in Rockhampton

East Coast Traffic Control team managing highway closure in Rockhampton

East Coast Traffic Control (ECTC) recently completed a significant traffic management project for Queensland Rail in Rockhampton, ensuring the safe and efficient closure of the Bruce Highway. This major operation, which spanned over a weekend, required meticulous planning and execution to divert one of the city’s primary routes, demonstrating ECTC’s expertise and reliability in traffic control.

In preparation for this project, our dedicated Design team at ECTC spent six weeks planning and adjusting the Traffic Guidance Schemes (TGS) to meet the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) requirements. The planning phase included last-minute changes and a thorough review process to ensure all protocols were met.

The project deployment involved a team of 22 Traffic Controllers and 18 utes, working in rotation over a 36-hour period. The ECTC team worked closely with Queensland Police Service personnel and local taxi services to manage the closure seamlessly.

The full highway closure was successfully in place by mid-afternoon on Saturday. The project continued with both day and night crews, culminating in the reopening of the highway late in the evening on Sunday. The entire operation was completed without any major incidents, underscoring ECTC’s commitment to safety and efficiency.

Both Queensland Rail and TMR have praised the ECTC team for their outstanding performance during this project. The successful execution of the closure has reinforced ECTC’s reputation for reliability and excellence in traffic management. As a result, Queensland Rail has confirmed ECTC as their preferred provider for a larger project in the same area next year.
