At East Coast Traffic Control, we don’t just put boots on the ground — we invest in people, capability and compliance to deliver safe, high-quality traffic management across QLD and NSW.
Recently, our team has taken another important step forward: several ECTC crew members have now completed their TMA (Truck Mounted Attenuator) driver training and licensing, making us officially TMA accredited and ready to support a wider range of high-speed, high-risk works.
This upgrade isn’t just about having a few new licences on paper — it’s about creating safer worksites, increasing flexibility for clients, and backing our team with the tools they need to do the job right.
What is a TMA and why does it matter?
A Truck Mounted Attenuator (TMA) is a specialised crash protection vehicle used during high-speed roadworks. Its job is simple but vital — to absorb the impact of an errant vehicle and protect the workers ahead of it.
They’re a requirement on many state-controlled roads, highways and motorways. If you’re operating in 80, 100 or 110 km/h zones, TMA protection isn’t optional — it’s essential.
By getting our drivers fully licensed and accredited, we can now support more of this work directly — no subcontracting, no delays, and no compromise on safety.
Training that meets the standard
TMA driver training isn’t a tick-the-box exercise. It involves:
- Specialist driving instruction
- Understanding the dynamics and deployment of attenuator systems
- Working knowledge of TMR and local authority standards
- In-vehicle safety training and emergency response planning
Thanks to the leadership of Area Manager Amy Downey, and support from our internal compliance team, this training was completed quickly and professionally — and with a strong focus on keeping standards high across all ECTC locations.
The photo might be a little gritty, but it captures the real work happening behind the scenes to build capability where it counts.
Ready for high-speed projects
We’re now able to support:
- Highway upgrades and reseals
- Bridge and barrier maintenance
- Line marking and inspections in live traffic
- Emergency response on high-speed corridors
- Any TMR-specified job requiring a TMA on site
This means fewer delays, fewer moving parts, and one reliable contractor that can deliver both the people and the protection for high-risk works.
More than just a licence — it’s a mindset
Having TMA-accredited drivers on staff shows more than just capability — it demonstrates a culture of proactive safety, compliance and responsiveness.
We didn’t wait for a contract to come through before upskilling. We prepared in advance so that when our clients need TMA support, we’re already ready to go.
